Biggest Agricultural Trading Center to rise in La Trinidad

Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Processo Alcala said that Benguet Agricultural Pinoy Trading Center (BAPTC), now undergoing construction in La Trinidad, "will showcase a holistic approach in stimulating growth in the sector through value-chain analysis - we do not stop at production, but we assist farmers in processing, value-adding and marketing."

The P655-Million BAPTC which will be operational first quarter 2015, will be a center for excellence and model of cooperation among stakeholders to further boost the agribusiness sector, according to the DA secretary.

The BAPTC covers a four-hectare lot and will be composed of three buildings to house trading spaces and processing facilities for local vegetables, cold and dry storage facilities and a dormitory house for farmers and traders who come from other towns or provinces. (Posted December 9, 2014)

DA intensifies corn production in Mindanao

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has appropriated P2.2 Billion for corn development in the Philippines, with the Agri-Pinoy Corn Program as the conduit. The corn budget allotment was the result of the recently-held 10th Philippine National Corn Congress (PNCC).

Agri-Pinoy Corn Program's secretariat head Milo delos Reyes said that about 50% of the amount will be allotted  for agri-machineries and post-harvest facilities. The acquisition of such farm equipment and facilities will greatly improve and increase corn production. Delos Reyes also urged farmers to adopt Good Agricultural Practices to sustain and enhance corn production. (Posted December 8, 2014)
