The United Nations, considering the alarming increase of road accident, has declared 2011 to 2020 as the "DECADE OF ACTION FOR ROAD SAFETY" worldwide.
According to the UN, road accidents result in 1.3 million fatalities annually worldwide, 20-50 million non-fatal injuries, and $500 Billion worth of properties destroyed!
In the Philippines, we do not have a centralized recording of road accidents, and the latest that we know of is a 2010 figures of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
However, corollary to the UN Declaration, Pres. Benigno S. Aquino also issued Presidential Proclation 159 declaring a "Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011 to 2020."
